Popular television shows have featured plenty of Republican characters over the years. You can probably think of a few of them right off the top of your head. For the purposes of this list, we thought it would be fun to focus on some of the ones you might not know about.

George Jefferson and his wife Louise were first introduced on ‘All in the Family’ as neighbors of the Bunker family. The success of George’s dry cleaning business allowed them to ‘move on up.’ Sherman Hemsley, who played George, was very private in real life, a total contrast to the character. He died in 2012.
4. Abbie Carmichael – Law & Order

Abbie Carmichael was an assistant DA on Law and Order from 1998 to 2001. She is possibly the most conservative character in the show’s history. A Christian, Carmichael is pro-life and pro-death penalty in certain cases. Angie Harmon, the actress who portrayed her is also a Republican, and spoke at the 2004 Republican National Convention.
5. Herb Tarlek – WKRP in Cincinnati

Detective Odafin or ‘Fin’ Tutuola is played by rapper Ice-T on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. On at least one episode, Fin clearly identifies himself as a Republican and based on other aspects of his character, it’s probably safe to assume that he is conservative on social issues.
7. Grandpa – The Munsters

According to various sources, Grandpa voted for the GOP. Of course, in real life, actor Al Lewis was on the left and even ran for governor of New York as a Green Party candidate in 1998. He passed away in 2006.

9. Howard Cunningham – Happy Days

Howard Cunningham, the loveable dad on ‘Happy Days’ who owned a hardware store in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, was apparently a Republican. It’s not really surprising, considering he was a small business owner.
10. Krusty the Clown – The Simpsons

Bart Simpson’s hero, Krusty the Clown, is one of Springfield’s Republicans. The Simpsons universe has quite a few Republican characters, but Krusty is the funniest one.
